Telecommute Jobs - Making It As A Graphic Designer

By: Garen Arnold

I have been freelancing (or telecommuting) from home for about two years as a freelance web designer. Lets face it the Internet has really changed our lives and has created millions of jobs over the last decade. Jobs that did not even exist are now creating opportunities for millions of people. Different universities are teaching cutting age technology and internet jobs are growing at an alarming rate. However, today I want to talk about 'graphic design' jobs, and how to get more clients.

So what is graphic design anyways? Graphic design is generally the creation of personal identities, mailers, business cards, web sites, ect. In essence people hire graphic designers in order to make things look nice or appealing. Did you know that the demand of graphic design jobs has increased drastically over the past decade. Working as a graphic designer can be very profitable, but if you are constantly looking for work it can be very draining on ones mind.

Hundreds if not thousands of people are starting out as work-at-home (or freelance) graphic designer. This can be good for companies because if they allow their employees to telecommute from home they do not have to pay for utilities and various other expenses. However, work-at-home graphic designers love it because they get the chance to work from the comfort of their own home.

Tips For Getting More Graphic Design Work:

Tip 1: Adjust your resume to your clients needs. If your potential client has an inquiry about a personal identity it makes no sense to show them various pieces from your package design collection. It is a good idea to keep many different variations of your resume and send a client the best ones that suits their needs.

Tip 2: Follow up when you send someone a resume or email. This shows that you are serious about getting the job. Everyone is busy and sometimes that little phone call after showing them your work can really be the deciding factor on who gets the job and who does not. Be polite but do not harass them.

Tip 3: Network until you can not possibly network anymore. Leave ads on various websites on the Internet. Do not just stick to one site, and sit around and wait for results. Nothing will ever happen if you do. You have got to get in the habit of staying active if you really want to make it as a freelance graphic designer. You can never have to many connections, especially if you are going to be working from home.
